DOC officer charged with drugs, prison contraband, official misconduct – Pacific Daily News

Two officers at the Department of Corrections were arrested after one was found with methamphetamine, marijuana, syringes and a cell phone and the other was found with tobacco during a search at the prison, according to court documents and a statement from DOC.

Mike Alex Muna Gumataotao has been charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance with intent to deliver, two counts of promoting major prison contraband, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and official misconduct.

The Department of Corrections has launched an internal investigation, Maj. Antone F. Aguon said in the statement.

The two were arrested Friday evening after the prison’s Special Operations Response Team conducted an administrative search of all officers reporting for duty. 

Each member of the shift identified their personal bags, and officers found a bottle of lotion in Gumataotao’s bag. Inside the bottle they found a clear plastic baggie containing methamphetamine, two plastic hypodermic syringes, three plastic straws sealed on each end and a cell phone, according to charging documents.

Another officer who has been employed with the department for five years, and was not identified in the news release, was found in possession of tobacco products and was booked and released.

Gumataotao, who was identified in charging documents, has been employed with the department for eight months.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Gumataotao was booked, confined and later released on $10,000 bond.
