Prince Charles won’t ‘willingly step down from his destiny’ for Prince William – Page Six

Prince Charles isn’t going anywhere.

At 72 years old, Prince Charles is next in line to be the King of England, and has no plans to turn the title over to his eldest son, Prince William, according to one royal expert and author.

Royal biographer Robert Lacey delved into the topic on Friday’s “Good Morning Britain,” Daily Mail reports. Lacey said that, as the longest-serving heir-apparent to the British throne, Charles will be the oldest-ever King when he is crowned. Still, the Prince of Wales has no intention of stepping aside for his 38-year-old firstborn, Lacey believes.

“There is such loyalty and respect for the Queen [that] when we look to the future and say, ‘Who could duplicate that in the future,’ could it be King Charles and Queen Camilla?” Lacey posed. “Or would it much better be William and Kate, who are already the focus of enormous popularity and are clearly stepping into the role of future sovereign?

“I myself don’t think [Charles] would willingly step down from the destiny he has waited [for] for so long,” he added.

Lacey is also a historical consultant on the Netflix hit, “The Crown,” adding the show did its due diligence to ensure accuracy.

“We made a great effort — I’m only the historical consultant in a huge team on ‘The Crown’ — but we made a huge effort to understand Charles and where he was coming from.”
