Bridgeport officials warn of ‘illegal unregulated’ COVID test site – CTPost

BRIDGEPORT — City officials are warning of an “illegal, unregulated” pop-up COVID-19 testing site on East Main Street near Gala Foods that is not registered with the state.

Anyone who used the site to get tested “should immediately contact the Connecticut Department of Public Health Office of Facility Licensing and Investigations,” city spokeswoman Rowena White said in a brief news release Friday evening.

City officials learned of the pop-up testing site Friday and said it is not properly licensed with the state nor approved by the city.

Bridgeport authorities said they are not aware of identity theft or cash theft related to the site.

White said city officials are “concerned nonetheless until city officials have been assured that this group has taken correct action and steps to register with the State of CT DPH and that all processes concerning resident’s personal and health information are handled in an official and appropriate capacity within the law.”

Scott Appleby, the city’s director of emergency management, said no arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

Those tested at the site should contact DPH through dphflisevents.ct.gov

Av Harris, a spokesman for DPH, deferred questions related to the testing site to the state Department of Consumer Protection and state Attorney General William Tong’s office, noting public health only has jurisdiction over “licensed testing providers.”

White urged residents to see if a testing facility is listed on the city’s webpage for testing locations.

“If it’s not listed, don’t test,” she said.
