SAN ANTONIO – Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday will provide an update on the state’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Texas.

Abbott is expected to speak during a press conference at noon at the Arlington Expo Center, one of the state’s mass COVID-19 vaccination sites. The news conference will be livestreamed in this article, but delays are possible. If there is not a livestream available, check back at a later time.

Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, Texas Department of State Health Services Commissioner John Hellerstedt and Texas Health Resources CEO Barclay E. Berdan will also be in attendance.

This week, 28 hub providers in Texas are expected to receive more than 158,000 doses of the vaccine. A total of 19,725 doses will go to two Bexar County hubs: 9,000 Moderna vaccines will go to the Metropolitan Health District and 10,725 Pfizer doses will go to University Health, according to the state.

The City of San Antonio will begin administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to those who are eligible starting this week at the Alamodome. It will be in operation through the week, but registration to receive the vaccine filled up within minutes when it opened on Saturday.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff wrote a letter to Abbott on Sunday, requesting more COVID-19 vaccines for Bexar County “as soon as possible.”

Another 38,300 doses will go to other providers, including hospitals and clinics, across Texas. Click here to see the state’s Week 5 vaccine allocations.

Texas is currently vaccinating health care workers, people 65 and older and those with medical conditions that put them at greater risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

As of Sunday, the state’s death toll is over 30,000 people with the number of hospitalizations due to the coronavirus steadily rising.

Johns Hopkins says that over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases in Texas has increased by 9,363.7, an increase of 76.9%.
