Anti-Ted Cruz Activists Fundraise for ‘Traitor’ Billboards in His Texas Neighborhood – Newsweek

A billboard campaign is in the works to target Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) with fundraising underway for signs reading “traitor” to be erected in his home state.

Cruz continues to face a backlash following his actions surrounding the violence of January 6, with his decision to object to certain Electoral College votes brought into question. There have been calls for him to resign and also the suggestion he could be censured.

Really American PAC is fundraising for the billboards, which would feature a red background with the word traitor written across in capital letters alongside a photo of Cruz.

The group accuses him of having played a “critical role in riling up the domestic terrorists on January 6th.” It also referred to footage of those involved in the breach of the Capitol referring to Cruz as they did so.

“That’s why we’re crowdfunding these billboards in his hometown in Texas to remind his voters and neighbors that Ted Cruz is a traitor and also betrayed this country,” the fundraising page states.

“He must face consequences, electorally and under the law.”

Majid M. Padellan, a senior advisor at Really American PAC, shared the fundraiser in a tweet and said: “We’re posting these billboards in his neighborhood to shatter his presidential aspirations.”

Cruz has been among names mentioned for a potential 2024 presidential run, though is not among the favorites—with former President Donald Trump regularly tipped as a top choice in polling should he choose to run again.

The group previously targeted Cruz in a video advert calling for him to be expelled from the Senate.

Cruz has also previously been targeted in billboards following January 6 by the Republican Accountability Project. These called on him to resign.

In a statement responding to this, Cruz’s spokesperson Maria Jeffrey Reynolds said: “The left—and some grifters on the right—are consumed by partisan anger and rage. Sen. Cruz will continue to work for 29 million Texans in the Senate.”

Regarding his questioning of election integrity, Cruz defended this as “the right thing to do.”

In a statement condemning the violence at the Capitol, he added: “Millions of Americans who have peacefully expressed their deep concerns regarding election integrity deserve to have their voices heard. It was the right thing to do.”

Cruz was among those who voted to acquit former President Donald Trump at his recent Senate impeachment trial, which ended in his acquittal.

Newsweek has contacted Really American PAC and Cruz’s office for comment.
