Mexican authorities are searching for three alleged masterminds in last week’s slaying of 13 law enforcement officers that is believed to have been carried out by cartel members.
Twenty-five other alleged members of the Familia Michoacana drug gang have been detained in the case, according to the State of Mexico prosecutor’s office.
Eight state police officers and five prosecutions investigators were massacred last Thursday in the ambush attack on the outskirts of Mexico City.
The law enforcement officers were on their way to establish a checkpoint when they were fired upon.
Nearly 700 spent shell casings were found at the scene, prosecutors said.
Warrants have been issued for the still-at-large purported masterminds of the attack.
Authorities offered a reward of about $25,000 each for information leading to their arrest.
