CT Weather: Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Develops Thursday Afternoon – Patch.com

CONNECTICUT — On Thursday afternoon rain is expected to develop across the state and there may be thunderstorms and up to an inch of rain before the precipitation stops Friday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southern Connecticut for strong wind gusts Friday afternoon and evening.

“Westerly wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are likely Friday afternoon into Friday Night,” the weather service said. “With full foliage away from the immediate coast, these winds will likely be more impactful in terms of tree damage and possible power outages than similar wind events we have experienced this Winter and early Spring.”

The good news is that the weekend looks pretty good with sunshine both days and temperatures into the 60s. It certainly hasn’t been a warm spring yet, but we could see 70s on Monday and Tuesday.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said it’s a good idea for people to take their umbrellas Thursday. He said the rain will be off and on during the day, but steadier rain develops Thursday evening and there may be a “passing thunderstorm tonight-clearing pretty early tomorrow.”

“It will be windy tomorrow with temperatures in the 60s,” Simmons shared on social media. “A flurry possible tomorrow night LOL followed by OK weather and windy on Saturday with highs in the 50s to about 60. Warmer on Sunday with an early shower possible.”
