Uttar Pradesh: Yogi Adityanath taking direct feedback from people representatives, party netas to draw po – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s decision to take direct feedback from MPs, MLAs and state party functionaries separately from the six organisational regions has trained the focus on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) saffron mascot setting his ear to the ground for a micro-level assessment of the prevailing political situation in the run-up to UP polls due in the next few months.
Sources close to the CM said that Yogi has been seeking to evaluate the loopholes which need to be plugged for neutralising potential challenges posed by a belligerent opposition. Not surprisingly, the meetings are being convened at the CM’s residence, in what is seen as Yogi’s loud assertion vis-a-vis BJP organisation and its strategy which is likely to be taken up in the next few days.
A senior BJP leader privy to the CM’s meetings said that Yogi has also been categorically enquiring from MLAs and MPs about the grass-roots situation about the facilities his government has been pressing for, besides the role of district-level administrative machinery and its coordination with the party organisation in the implementation of various ambitious schemes of the central and the state government.
“This has given him the feel of the situation and the constituencies which require better focus in the coming days,” he said.
Sources said that the CM was earlier expected to hold separate review meetings in all 18 administrative divisions. The exercise, however, has been shortened as the BJP brass sought to expedite the review process and effecting a correctional course, especially after the saffron party found itself on the backfoot following the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which junior Union home minister Ajay Mishra’s son, Ashish, was allegedly involved in mowing down protesting farmers on October 3.
Yogi’s region-wise meeting comes days after he hit the ground and went on a spree to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects in different districts. This was also seen as a pre-election exercise to execute political messaging in electorally significant assembly constituencies.
BJP state secretary Chandra Mohan said that Yogi has been seeking to establish a dialogue to pump up the morale of the party functionaries and set them on an aggressive campaign mode. “He is perhaps the only CM who has visited all 75 districts to gauge the local situations,” he said, stressing that establishing a dialogue with people and the party workers has been his “top priority” and “strength”.
He pointed out that the CM had been meeting the MLAs, party workers and people at the peak of the second wave of Covid-19 to assess the situation.
BJP sources said that based on the current feedback, the party would prioritise its upcoming exercise and campaigns to necessitate a robust electoral approach before the notification for the UP assembly election gets announced.
