New Zealand man had cockroach living inside his ear for three days – New York Post

The pest was all in his head — but he wasn’t imagining it.

A New Zealand man realized every entomophobe’s worst nightmare after a cockroach infiltrated his ear and stayed there for three whole days.

“It made me feel physically ill,” Zane Wedding, who is Maori, told the New Zealand Herald of the infiltrating insect, which reportedly crept in his ear canal Friday while he was swimming at a pool in Auckland.

The Greenpeace worker first felt something was awry after he got home that day and felt as if his ear was clogged. Initially thinking it was water from the pool, Wedding became alarmed after the “water” continued to move — even when he was sitting still, Metro reported.

The next day, the desperate Kiwi reported to the doctor, who agreed with his “water” diagnosis. They prescribed the patient antibiotics and told him to blow-dry his ear canal to resolve the symptoms.

Unfortunately, this regimen did nothing to alleviate the otic infestation.

“I spent most of the weekend laying on my side or jamming a hair dryer in my ear,” lamented Wedding to CNN. “When I had to walk around I would instantly be dizzy.”

“When I would lay down, I could hear the ‘water’ moving around my eardrum,” added the poor soul, who reportedly tried everything from ear candles to chewing gum to clear the blockage — but to no avail.

Finally, after his problem hadn’t been resolved by Monday, Wedding reported to the ear, nose and throat specialist.

Per his account, the doctor reportedly examined his ear passage and exclaimed, “Oh my god, I think you have an insect in your ear.”

“In that moment, I realized every movement I’d felt over the weekend was the cockroach moving around in my ear,” said the aghast man of the “Creepshow”-evoking realization.

Thankfully, the medical practitioner managed to extract the entomological stowaway in several minutes, first yanking out the half of the bug, the New Zealand Herald reported. The rest of it, meanwhile, was removed with a suction device in a moment Wedding described as “instant relief.”

“I felt [my eardrum] pop as it came away,” said the grateful patient, adding that the woman who extracted the miniature itch-hiker exclaimed, “I’ve never seen this before. I’ve read about it, but never seen it.”

Wedding says that the memory of the ordeal still gives him "the creeps."

While the operation went off without a hitch, Wedding says that thinking about the ordeal still gives him “the creeps.”

This isn’t the first time someone has had their head bugged of late. In 2019, doctors in China discovered that a man’s earache was caused by around a dozen cockroaches that had hatched in his hearing canal like a fleshy incubator.
